Moving Tips

  • Donate, sell, or trash items you no longer need.
  • Schedule a donation pickup, and there’s no need to leave home. I encourage you to reach out 6 weeks prior.
  • Items to set aside if you’re headed out of town without us: sheets, towels, blankets, bedding.
  • If you have kids, turn it into a competition/game for them, with a target number of boxes packed.
  • Pack similar items together. Separating by tasks and room can be very helpful.
  • The best way to pack hanging clothes is the garbage bag method.
  • Movers want to start loading with large furniture, like dressers. Often times, the pathway to a dresser is blocked by boxes. We’re happy to start with boxes, but many people hire us because of the heavy items!
  • Large bicycle boxes are a great way to transport several framed items together, and most bike shops are happy to give them away
  • Drain anything that contains liquids (Lawnmowers, coffee makers, dehumidifiers, etc)
  • We may be strong, but we’d rather be smart. That said, never pack a box heavier than you can lift.
  • Here’s an excellent article I found on Angie’s List that outlines what size boxes are appropriate for various items.
  • The tools our crews carry are the essentials. If you know that any of your items require special tools, please be sure to keep them on hand for moving day.
  • If your move involves elevators, please reserve it for the day of the move. Additionally, if any key fob or access codes will be needed, please pass these along on moving day.
  • For areas that have shared or community parking, please be sure to alert the building and/or reserve an area that is closest to the building for ease of loading/unloading.

Storage

  • inside access vs outside access
  • which will you need first
  • the cost of storage adds up
  • Do you really need it?
  • Benefit: Sometimes they offer free use of a truck. If this is the case, please let us know!
